After this year’s shocking heatwaves across the UK, Elvira and I realised it’s time to get even more serious about the current climate emergency. After all, things have been getting worse for years. Back in 2019, Public Health England reported that 892 persons died because of heatwaves* in England alone. Sadly, it looks like 2022 won’t be much better.
While we already do our best to be as green as possible, we can’t get around the fact that each product delivery causes some CO2 emissions.
To mitigate the effects of this, we will plant a tree for every order of three or more bottles of fine Italian wine (i.e. any wine in our web shop). This offer starts from 31 August.
The funds will come directly out of our profits, so we won’t ask you to pay any extra.
The reason we’re encouraging customers to place larger orders is that the amount of CO2 doesn’t change much, whether you order one bottle or several. The weight of the delivery van has a much bigger impact on emissions.
For this reason, we’re asking people to consider ordering a few bottles at once. That way we can send your delicious wine all at once, rather than across multiple vans.
To help neutralise our carbon footprint, we’re partnering with Ecologi – a Bristol-based non-profit organisation that helps to plant trees and reduce the effects of CO2-emissions. They have already helped British businesses and individuals to fund 47.7 million trees. We’re proud to be a part of the movement.

Before choosing Ecologi, we considered a number of different tree planting services. What we like best about Ecologi is that they show full evidence of tree planting and CO2 reduction. This information is publicly available: on their website, hover over “Evidence of Tree planting” and click “Purchase receipts“. Because of this, we have confidence that the cash you spend with us will go to the right place.
