The Independent has released its list of the best pink sparkling wines for Valentine’s Day 2023, naming Ca’ di Rajo rosé brut as its Best Pink Prosecco.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse for a romantic celebration, and nothing says romance quite like rosé fizz. Siobhan Grogan of The Independent recommends 10 best pink champagnes, proseccos and sparkling wines for Valentine’s Day (and beyond) – and we’re proud to see one of our favourite bottles topping the list.
Ca’ di Rajo “Rosé Brut” Prosecco – chosen by experts
Every wine considered for inclusion in the article was thoroughly tested. Served chilled, drank alone and teamed with romantic meals such as seafood, dessert and spicy stir fry. As Grogan says, “We looked for effervescence, enticing aromas and appealing flavours that we would be thrilled to raise a glass with at a special event or even drink year-round.” As a result, this single-vintage pink Prosecco from Ca’ di Rajo was named the best overall pink Prosecco.
The Independent’s verdict
So, what made the panel choose Ca’ di Rajo “Rosé Brut” Prosecco Treviso DOC Millesimato? Grogan says ” It’s a pure delight to drink… like devouring a bowl of strawberries and cream.” She goes on to describe its surprising flavour. “Every mouthful reveals something unexpected, including the tang of cranberries, the juiciness of ripe raspberries and even a note of spicy pepper that makes this pink fizz a real Italian triumph.”
Frequently featured in the press
This isn’t Ca’ di Rajo’s first brush with fame, either. This light, fresh and elegant fizz also features as one of Forbes’ Best New Prosecco Rosés for Spring 2021, with high-end food writer Nicole Trilivas saying “Ca’ Di Rajo Treviso Prosecco DOC Rosé is like springtime in a glass with notes of freshly picked strawberries, rose petals and a balancing tang of pomegranate.”
A wallet-friendly favourite
At just £17.45, it’s excellent value for money. This is recognised by Decanter, who name it one of the Best Prosecco under £20. In the article, the Regional Editor for Italy (James Button) writes: “Warm, spicy, earthy red fruit scents with a lick of cream. Mouthfilling and creamy with ripe red fruits, it has some peppery spice and apple in the background. It has a very definite rosé character and that Pinot Noir is clearly making itself heard.”
Why we love it
The wine is made by the Cecchetto family, who reopened the Ca’ di Rajo winery in 2005 based on a family tradition going back to 1931. Crafted from Glera and Pinot Noir grapes grown in the village of Rai, 30 miles north of Venice, this Pink Prosecco is truly one of a kind. It burst with tiny bubbles and has a sweet candy smell, adding up to a delightfully playful sensation on the tongue. As well as being praised by the press, it also took home a Bronze medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2021.
