Fresh, vibrant Verdicchio from the Classico zone just 1 km from Jesi, with flavours of acacia flowers, lemon zest, almond and honey
This Verdicchio is delightfully refreshing and sharp, with dominating notes of lemon zest and lime supported by bitter green bell pepper. “Federico II” is produced just 1 km west of the town of Jesi – in the heart of the most prestigious Classico area. Gianluca Mirizzi, the owner of the Montecappone winery, uses the hyper-reduction technique of vinification: all air is removed to prevent oxidation. This helps to preserve the pure aromas of the grape.
This Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi is dedicated to Federico II, who was born here, in Jesi, in AD 1194. He was King of Italy, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Jerusalem, founder of the world’s first state University in Naples, and was known as “stupor mundi” – the miracle of the world.
Tasting note
In the glass, this Verdicchio Classico Superiore has a medium lemon colour. It offers elegant aromas of white flowers, such as orange blossom and acacia, as well tangy notes of lemon rind and lime. There’s also a touch of pleasant bitterness from the green bell pepper flavour. Notes of sage and rosemary add a herbaceous touch, while a hint of almond and honey indicates the time already spent in bottle.
