Piemonte

Piedmont (or Piemonte in Italian) is sandwiched between the Alps in the north and the Apennine Mountains in the south. The vineyard areas of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato are some of the few wine-growing regions to make it onto the UNESCO World Heritage list, alongside St Emilion in Bordeaux and Tokaj in Hungary.

Remarkable red wines: Barolo and Barbaresco are known as the King and Queen of Italian wine. Barbera is Italy’s third most popular grape in Italy that tastes like wild strawberry and cherry – with a hint of spice.

Remarkable white wines: Arneis is deliciously sharp and refreshing, it has delicate aromas of fresh pear, apricots and blossom. The best examples of this aromatic white grape come from Roero – just on the other side of the Tanaro River from Barolo and Barbaresco.

Remarkable sparkling wines: Muscat, or Moscato d’Asti, is low in alcohol and enlivened with subtle sparkle – a gorgeous wine for a summer afternoon.
