Italian White Wine
At Independent Wine, we specialise in flavourful Italian white wine with a strong personality. Our wine buyer has spent years assembling this collection, piece by piece.
Fragrant Alpine wines
The vineyards of Alto Adige sit as high as 1000 metres above sea level, stacked on the slopes of the Alps. The combination of altitude and alpine soil boosts acidity and aromatic complexity within the grapes. The result is truly superb Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Bianco.
Verdicchio, Lugana and Chardonnay
Verdicchio and Lugana grapes may be genetically identical, but the wines produced are so different. Full-bodied and complex, they age marvellously in oak or amphorae. Top Italian wineries take Chardonnay to the next level, too.
Fashionable in Italy: Vermentino and Arneis
Although still new in the UK, Arneis is now a very fashionable wine that’s booming across Italy. When done right, it makes complex white wine with flavours of honey, jasmine and nuts. Vermentino is traditional in Liguria and Toscana, but Sardinia is responsible for the best examples.
