Single-vineyard wine from the Barolo village area. Flavours of wild strawberry, mint, liquorice and balsamic
The Paiagallo cru vineyard (pictured) lies on a hill overlooking the village of Barolo. Planted at an altitude of 345 metres, the vineyard looks south-east and catches the morning sun.
Barolo Paiagallo is one of four single-vineyard Barolos produced by the Broccardo family. Each of them reflects the specific nature of its terroir.
Winemaking
Filippo Broccardo produces each of his wines in a clean style, in order to preserve its character. Grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for 15 days. Barolo Paiagallo is aged for 24 months in a combination of large, used French and Slavonian oak barrels. After bottling, the wine matures for about two years more taking the overall ageing period to 49 months.
Each year, only 3,000 bottles of this limited edition Barolo Paiagallo are produced. This limited edition Barolo would make an excellent gift for wine collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Tasting notes
Barolo Paiagallo opens up with fresh aromas of wild strawberry and mint. In the mouth, this is balanced by savoury notes of liquorice and balsamic, joined by pepper and sandalwood. The long finish brings notes of blackberry, pipe tobacco and leather.
