This rich Primitivo wine bursts with lush flavours of prunes, cinnamon, vanilla and sweet pipe tobacco
Straight out of the bottle Diecianni Primitivo offers a powerful taste of prunes, fresh blackberries, cinnamon, vanilla and dark chocolate. This wine has lots of richness and complexity, and offers an outstanding value for money.
The Primitivo grapes for Diecianni are grown between the towns of Guagnano and San Pancrazio Salentino, in the province of Lecce in Salento – at the very “heel” of the Italian “boot”. Here, despite the summer heat, the ever-present fresh breezes between the Ionian sea and the Adriatic moderate the temperatures, and help the grapes to retain aromas of fresh fruits.
“Primitivo” means “early ripening ” (rather than “primitive”), and it’s no surprise that the Primitivo grapes for this wine are harvested at the very start of September. They are fermented in stainless steel tanks, and then aged for three months in French oak barriques where they pick up their flavours of vanilla and cinnamon spice.
Deep ruby colour in the glass. This wine offers lots of captivating aromas of succulent black fruits and spices, such as prunes, vanilla and dark chocolate, supported by notes of blackberry and sweet pipe tobacco. In the mouth, the wine is dry, with with a medium level of alcohol and soft, velvety tannins. Diecianni leaves a lingering aroma of sweet pipe tobacco and spices in the glass.

KCCaer –
This wine has incredible depth and smoothness. I only wish I could keep wife away from it, who in fact comes from the region this is made in Italy. The only problem we have is that it disappears from the wine cellar too quickly.
Macaroon –
Opened a bottle of this the other day and had 100% success – everyone (even those who normally don’t drink wine) loved it and we had to ration it as we only had the one bottle! Very deep burgundy colour with a rich, full flavour and great aftertaste!
Phenoc –
Fantastic deep black red colour with a fabulous velvet smooth texture. This is one of the best primitivos I’ve tasted! Will buy again.

@ChrisWalkey –
Plenty of dark berry fruit flavours with a pink of earthy / peppery / liquorice. Aromas share black fruits, cocoa, earthy, crushed dark red rose petals. I’m picturing BBQ’d spare ribs or steak to go with this wine.
