A red Montepulciano wine made by the Beretta family. Expect elegant freshness with aromas of red cherry and bitter dark chocolate
The wine’s name, “La Regia Specula”, is named after the Royal Observatory in a naval fort – where officers would patrol the coast against enemy ships and pirates. Grapes for this delicious wine are grown at an estate owned by the famous Beretta family, and harvested by hand in early October. The wine is matured for twelve months – partly in 500-litre Slavonian oak barrels, and partly in large 2000-litre oak barrels. This lends sophisticated aromas of smoke and chocolate.
Tasting notes: Dry and fresh with a pronounced intensity of flavours. Notes of red plum and red cherry, toasted bread, smoke and dark chocolate. Well integrated, velvety tannins with a delightfully long finish.
Awards: Mundus Vini Gold Medal

Firstly the colour – wow deep deep red. Sweet cherry on the nose and dark chocolate on the palette drying out at the end. Amazing wine!

Full bodied red. Dark fruit with a good finish. Drink on its own or with food, stands up to spicy food, BBQ and rich pasta dishes. A regular on my rack.
