Remarkably structured and complex Sauvignon Blanc from the hills of Abruzzo, with notes of minerality and a sweet honeyed undertone
Ghiaiolo is crafted by Marina Orlandi (pictured) – an experienced winemaker who was instrumental in shaping the Abruzzo wine industry as we know it.
The hills of north-eastern Abruzzo are home to white wines with plenty of structure and minerality. The soil here is morainic, created by retreating glaciers. Rich in clay and gravel, they are infused with minerals that you can taste in the wine.
Constant sea breezes bring salty mists through the vineyards, cooling the air and helping grapes to develop aromatic complexity. In the hands of a skilled winemaker, like Marina, those grapes can produce the most delicious, complex wines.
Tasting notes
This Sauvignon Blanc wine has a pale lemon colour. The nose starts off with fresh aromas of green apple and notes of garden herbs such as dill, mint and sage. It carries on with a sweet undertone of honeysuckle and candied lemon, complemented by a tropical hint of guava. Cooled by the Adriatic breezes, this wine offers a mineral core with a touch of sea salt.
