Gorgeous UK-exclusive sparkling rosé made from the powerful Nebbiolo grape

This sparkling rosé wine from award-winning winemaker Fabrizio Francone is a delightfully unusual bubbly. It is made from Nebbiolo, which is normally reserved for the legendary reds of Piedmont: Barolo and Barbaresco.

Winemaking

Valsellera is crafted using the classic method - similar to the way Champagne is made. The grapes were hand-harvested in late summer from the winemaker's family vineyard in Neive. After crushing, the juice was left in contact with the skins for a few hours to absorb the distinctive Nebbiolo flavours, and then fermented at 16°C. Finally, it was aged in the bottle on its lees for three years - a very long period for a rosé. This extended ageing smoothens the muscular and coarse tannins Nebbiolo is famous for, and helps the wine to develop a velvety, delicate character.

Tasting notes

In the glass, this Nebbiolo bubbly has a bright ruby-pink colour. A fresh violet floral nose with a core of bitter red grapefruit, lingering notes of wild strawberry balanced by a lick of sweet vanilla. Fine mousse and impressive structure reflecting long ageing sur lie.

This pink Prosecco is a lovely summer drink - it's light, elegant and fresh, with added sophistication from the Pinot Noir grape making it a bit special. This red grape gives the wine a vivid pink blush, as well as adding delicate hints of wild strawberry and fresh raspberry.

With its tiny bursting bubbles it almost feels like popping strawberry candy - a delicious sensation. The Glera and Pinot Noir grapes for this Rosé come from the village of Rai, near the Piave river, 30 miles north of Venice.

This pink Prosecco bursts with pleasant tiny bubbles. Juicy, fresh flavours of wild strawberry, cranberry, fresh raspberry, balanced by a sweet smell of candy. This is a delightful summer drink, with a light body and lower-than-usual alcohol content (11.5%).

Old vine Negroamaro rosé with a vibrant coral shade. Lush tastes of fresh raspberry, cranberry, and a hint of sea salt

Only 6,000 bottles of this Rosarò are produced per year. It's made from Negroamaro grapes grown on 50-year old vines near Guagnano, in southern Puglia. This unique wine offers a much higher flavour concentration than a typical rosé - you can almost sense aromas of Negroamaro rosso in the glass. This is because the winemaker uses long skin contact to obtain a deep flavour profile and luminous colour, setting this rosé apart from the others. But most importantly, during winemaking, they separate the best 30% of the fermented wine and use it to produce Rosarò. The rest is used for other, less premium wines.

Winemaking

The Negroamaro grapes for this wine are harvested by hand. The grape juice is kept in contact with its skins for 24 hours after crushing, which extracts a lot of aroma and colour. This period of skin contact is much longer than a typical rosé, which explains why this wine has more vibrant flavours. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. During racking, the best fraction of the resulting wine - the clearest and the most aromatic part - is separated into a new tank. It ages there for 3 months, finally becoming Rosarò.

Tasting notes

Luminous, salmon-pink colour with an orange rim. Pronounced aromas of raspberry, cranberry and blood orange, with a touch of fresh juniper bitterness and a hint of sea-breeze saltiness. The wine is dry, with a high level of refreshing acidity, a medium body and a creamy texture. This is an unusually rich and flavoursome rosé, with lots going on. Serve lightly chilled.
