Orlandi Contucci Ponno
Marina Orlandi Contucci is one of the biggest names in Abruzzo. Her winery is located in the Colline Teramane area – the most prestigious area of Abruzzo. Montepulciano was once known only as a mass-produced, simple wine. As one of the founders of the Consorzio Colline Teramane, Marina helped the territory to gain reputation for high-quality, boutique winemaking. In 2007 the winery was acquired by the Gussalli Beretta group, but remains under Marina’s diligent management.
The vineyards are influenced by moderating breezes from the Adriatic Sea (just one kilometre away) and the Gran Sasso mountains (20km south-west). The soil is predominantly calcareous. The winery produces a range of wines including Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Liburnio (a blend of French red grapes), as well as whites such as Trebbiano, Pecorino, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
